Sixteen-Year-old Tasso Menzies just finished burying his grandfather next to his mother and grandmother on the family farm when he receives an order from his estranged uncle to come to Capital City. He doesn’t want to leave the only home he’s ever known. He doesn’t want to be apprenticed on a space freighter crewed by Texas cowboys of Mexican descent. He certainly doesn’t want to be gone for so long that his home and inheritance are stolen. While trying to fit in and still get home he learns what it is like to live in space, what a cheerleader is, how spicy a taco can be, and that Texicans like a good fight as much as he does.

  1. I wanted to let you know I loved this book. I am a stay at home mom and have a limited budget for books. I think I have read all of your books, but I am not sure. I have read Titanium Texicans, Metal Boxes, Chewing Rocks, & Steel Walls and Dirt Drops. I can’t decide between the first two I listed which is,my favorite. I did enjoy all of them though. I give ★★★★★ on all of them. Thank you.

    1. Dana,
Thank you. Feedback from readers is what keeps my blood pumping. You mentioned 4 of my 5 scifi. Did you read Empty Space? It is a little different that these since the main character can be somewhat hard to take.
Have you read any of my non-scifi?

  2. Enjoyed this story and the characters and was wondering if this a one of story or will their be more to follow. I also noticed that “Metal Boxes and “Empty Space” ended similarly leaving it open for a continuation of the adventures of the main characters, are we to look forward to more from those books? I do hope so.

  3. Arthur,
I am about 75% of the way through the sequel to Metal Boxes. And a rough story line sketch for book three. I also have rough story outlines for books 2 and 3 in both Empty Space and Titanium Texicans. There are so many stories to tell, I can’t say when I will get to them, but I am working on it.

    1. Brilliant stuff. Have enjoyed both Empty Space and Titanium Texicans a great deal so am looking forward to further editions. Started using audiobooks last year as spending all day working with screens I enjoy just laying back with closed eyes listening and painting the environment in my mind. Patrick Freeman was especially brilliant with Texicans so I hope he is available for the following editions.

      1. Russ,
Thank you for your kind words. I don’t have any plans for sequels to Titanium Texicans…yet. However, I do have plans for two sequels to Empty Space in 2017.
FYI – we will have ALL of my scifi on audio books by the middle of Summer 2016. Larry Goes To Space is only about 2 weeks off from being on audiobook.

  4. Just wanted to let you know that this was my favorite of the science fiction that you have written that I have read. I really look forward to the next book.

  5. Just finished this, and really enjoyed it. It was a one sitting book for me. It put me in mind of Lowell’s Traders Tales, and that is not a bad company to be in.
If you’re going to write sequels to this, then I may be stepping on a plot point and if so, my apologies. There was mention of a last letter to Madame Ortiz from her son Tomas. What was in it? Could it be that Tomas was informing his mother of the woman he loved and intended to marry? Is that why Tass’s mother was so insistent that he would return? The Scots had some rather informal marriage customs, is it possible that they were, in fact, we’d through one of those customs? If so he is no bastard and the legitimate heir to the Ortiz freight lines.

    1. thanks for the feedback.
At this point, Titanium Texicans is a standalone. Maybe someday I will put together a sequel.

      1. The no plans for a sequel is a crying shame. There is more fun to be had in that universe as they say. Tasso, with the eye of a free trader, the heart of a liberator and an affinity for long hours alone, is in a prime position as a protagonist. I can see him with a small freighter free trading or trying to and getting into all sorts of situations.

Thanks for your work. I really do enjoy it. As I said this was a “one sitting” read for me. This means not that it was inadequate in any way but that I picked up my eReader sat down in my chair and did not move for 5 hours. Then I did the needful sat down again and looked up 7 hours later. It dominated my attention for 2 days. A truly absorbing story.

        1. Thank you, Sean. We have been discussing a sequel or a trilogy. When a final decision is made, we’ll update the website.

  6. Sawadee Khap….Greetings from Thailand!

I just finished listening to the audiobook version of Titanium Texicans, which I througly enjoyed. I have some questions about the Escorpión Rojo. I know that the ship is enormous, but HOW large is it? What is the general configuration? How is powered? I wish there had been some brief description of the control deck and enginering. I know these aren’t essential to the plot, but those are things that I enjoy hearing about.

I don’t know how many young people have read all the of Heinlein “juveniles”, but I was delighted at th first mention of stobors…AND at Tunnel in the Sky being the subject of a book report!

I listen to a LOT of audio books these days. I want to say that I enjoyed both Larry Goes to Space and Chewing Rocks. All of your books have had had wonderful narrators.

    Best wishes

    1. Lawrence,
Thank you for your kind comments.

I specifically didn’t give much information about the size or the specifications of the ship. I would like the reader (you) to apply your own sense of imagination and vision to the ship. I believe that will give a reader a more expansive scope than if I spent a few pages giving you a data dump.

How did you like the narrator? Patrick Freeman also did the voices on STEEL WALLS AND DIRT DROPS.

  7. Love, love, love these characters and the narrator (do a lot of audio books while traveling)–would love to see a sequel to this one. Love the metal box series as well

    1. Alta,
      Your comments are most appreciated.
Titanium Texicans is one of my favorite books. That is why I am loathe to just throw a sequel at it.
The fourth book – Metal Boxes – At the Edge – should be out on audiobook any day.

  8. I love Titanium Texicans! I have epilepsy and was hospitalized until they were under control. I love to read so my daughter introduced me to your books. Titanium Texicans, made me laugh and cry. It got me through, my hospital stay. I really hope one day, you decide to write a sequel. 🙂

    1. Discussions on a sequel cropped up this year and it may be added to the publication schedule in the future. Thank you.

Welcome and thanks. I will respond as soon as I can.
