Carl is a Shy man well…shy around pretty girls anyway. He lives a quiet life running the great ape house at the Birmingham zoo with very little to liven up his day except a few handfuls of feces tossed at him whenever he gets near the monkey cages. He is stunned when a young woman he really likes is attacked and hospitalized. To make matters worse, his best friend is facing a possible death sentence for killing two of her attackers. It is a death sentence orchestrated by a highly motivated politician bent on using Harpo’s execution to further his campaign for higher office. Carl’s friend Harpo is unable to help himself leaving Carl with no choice; he has to help his friend escape and hide until he can be cleared.

But, how to help Harpo is beyond anything in Carl’s experience. What can he do to get Harpo free? How does he hide Harpo from the police? Who can he trust? Why did the gang members attack the girl? Why is there a contract out on Harpo and Carl? The only thing he knows for sure is when. When is now! The politicians won’t wait. The police won’t wait. The criminal gang certainly won’t wait.

Carl races to save Harpo even knowing Harpo will complicate the escape. Trying to steal a four hundred pound orangutan and get away in a smart car will not be easy. Harpo is a fairly gentle orangutan, treating Carl more like a personal servant than his keeper, but he is not tame or trained. Once loose he will go where and when he wants to go. Maybe if Carl can get Harpo to his cousin Rooster’s place back up in the hills…
